- ==========
- The InvisibleLAN QuickDemo is suitable for a quick demonstration of the
- power and speed of InvisibleLAN specifically. Simply by typing A:QDEMO and
- answering a few questions, you can have a two node network up and running
- literally within minutes!
-
-
- REQUIREMENTS
- ============
-
- You must have a supported networking card in your computer and at least 2Mb
- of free space on your hard disk. To find out which network cards are
- supported, check with your local dealer or representative. If you are
- unable to obtain this information, the currently supported cards are:
- NE1000, NE2000 or 100% compatibles
- Western Digital 8013 and 100% compatibles
-
-
- INSTRUCTIONS
- ============
- To try out QuickDemo, type:
- A:QDEMO
- if the disk is in drive A:. If you have the floppy in a different drive,
- then substitute that drive's name for A:
-
- QuickDemo will show several screens with simple questions. The first one
- will ask you where you are installing from and where to install to. In most
- cases, the defaults will be correct, so you should only have to press Enter.
-
- The second screen asks for a network name for the current computer. Each
- computer on a network must have a different name than the other ones. The
- easiest choice is usually your own name. You should also indicate
- whether you want the Windows portion of the software installed. This is Y
- (for Yes) by default, so if you don't want it, you should press Tab or Enter
- once, then press the N key. The third selection on this screen asks for the
- type of network hardware you are using. The demo only supports NE1000,
- NE2000, and Western Digital 8013 Ethernet cards, as these are the most
- common cards in use. To change card selection, press Enter or Tab until the
- hardware selection is highlighted, then press PgDn. Use Up and Down to
- choose the proper card then press Enter. Finally, select Continue.
-
- The third screen will only appear if you chose to install the Windows part
- of the demo. It will display the Windows directory it found and the type of
- Windows you have. If this is incorrect or if you have more than one version
- of Windows on your computer, you can change the selections to ensure the
- proper version of Windows is used.
-
- Now QuickDemo will copy the files it needs from the floppy to your hard
- disk. If you chose Windows install, Windows will be started automatically,
- and the Windows version of QuickDemo will install a program group and items
- for you, as well as update any system files.
-
- When you are back out of Windows, QuickDemo will load the network for you
- and try to connect to any other networked computers it can detect. If you
- chose Windows install, it will also return you to Windows so you can try out
- the graphical interface for InvisibleLAN.
-
-
- WINDOWS SUPPORT
- ===============
- QuickDemo can detect which version of Windows you have installed in your
- computer, but it does not support Windows for Workgroups 3.10. If you are
- using Windows for Workgroups 3.10, you should choose No for Windows install.
-
- The currently supported versions of Windows are:
- Windows 3.0, 3.1 and 3.10
- Windows for Workgroups 3.11 (w/o network support)
- Windows for Workgroups 3.11 (w/ Microsoft Networks)
-
-
- UNINSTALLING
- ============
- To uninstall the network from your system, you should copy the backup files
- to their original names. When QuickDemo installs the software, it backs up
- your CONFIG.SYS, AUTOEXEC.BAT, SYSTEM.INI, WIN.INI and PROTOCOL.INI. All
- the backup files are given a .INV extension, so CONFIG.SYS is backed up to
- CONFIG.INV, AUTOEXEC.BAT to AUTOEXEC.INV, etc.
-
- Simply copy CONFIG.INV to CONFIG.SYS, AUTOEXEC.INV to AUTOEXEC.BAT, and so
- on. You only need to restore the SYSTEM.INI and WIN.INI files if you chose
- to install the Windows part of the software, and PROTOCOL.INI is only needed
- if you installed over Windows for Workgroups with networking.
-
- Once you've restore these system files, you should reboot your computer so
- the network is no longer loaded. Then delete the network directory (for
- example, C:\QDEMO30).
